Resident 2019

5/1/2019

I had a six month lease here that began in November of 2018 and terminated at the end of April 2019. To start things off- I will say the manager, Carlette, is RUDE. She was so sweet & welcoming while we were applying for the apartment then as soon as we signed it was a total 180 by the very next day. I thought maybe it was in my head until some other folks that I know through the military who also live at the Alexander said they had a similar experience. It 100% confirmed to me that this is indeed a charade she plays a few weeks ago when I saw her giving some prospective tenants a tour of an apartment and made a whole seen of greeting me with a huge smile & tried to be super friendly with me in front of them as I was walking to my apartment. I have screenshots of this next part. My roommate went on leave for a week and I received an email from Carlette stating the roommate had left some box or something in a refuse room at move-in and we needed to collect it or be charged a disposal fee. The roommate couldn't remember what she was talking about so I responded to Carlette and asked which Refuse room (This building is huge & we had to trek through the whole thing at move in with her stuff so I didn't know which one she used). The response I received? "I guess whichever room your roommate used ??". Uhhh.... unfair & unprofessional. Especially if you're threatening to charge us. I followed it up with an response explaining she was out of state and I would be happy to dispose of it but needed to know which refuse room. Never received a response. I walked all of the Refuse rooms and never found anything, lol. She is quick to email you about fees on your account or whatever it is she wants, but rarely returns an explanation or responds to emails. There were at least three other instances with this woman that I had to tell myself to remain calm because she was so outright disgusting in her demeanor. This is the #1 thing about Alexander that left a bad taste in my mouth and the main reason I did not renew. I absolutely loathe poorly-mannered people. Especially when you're paying $1,600 a month to live in the building they manage. 2nd- Speaking of move-in time, we were told we'd have access to a cargo elevator near the parking garage to move furniture in when we signed our lease. What was not communicated was that it was broken. Non-operational. No dice. Imagine rolling up with a full U-Haul and going to the front desk when the elevator won't recall to the ground floor just to be told by different staff members, "Oh yeah.... it doesn't work." I asked how long it had been out of commission.... they said weeks. We signed the lease a week prior so um, guess she lied straight to our faces. Now that I know what I know, this is par for the course. 3rd- Your money's worth. Against other apartments in this area- the amount of $$$ you pay in rent here is a straight travesty. Other luxury apartments in the area offer extremely competitive rent + amenities compared this complex. Like, new and GORGEOUS apartment complexes with fantastic reviews less than 5 minutes from The Alexander. I was so mad at how ripped-off I felt when I started touring other ones at the end of my lease. The apartments are out-dated (but clean! I'll give them that) and something is always wrong. My toilet runs after you flush it for hours. Reported it to the office staff and it was not fixed once in the entire six months I was there. This is a pet-friendly complex and you have to walk through the interior of the building to get to your unit. The hallways always smell like dog urine on the second floor. Like it's a straight assault on your senses. The fob-access entrance doors to the building are constantly broken. Hope you like games because it's a gamble if you street park that your fob will work. In closing- The rest of the staff is friendly and helpful. Apartments are outdated but kept clean. Location is good during the day but at night there is a lot of criminal activity. I wouldn't ever recommend living here for the price.
