Resident 2009 - 2010

12/2/2010

This apartment seemed very decent in the beginning. The living room is very nice and spacious with very clean carpeting. I live on the bottom floor which is a one bedroom and I really think this is only best for students or people who live alone. It's very hard to have two people live here because of such a limited amount of storage space(especially in the kitchen). The only strange thing about the way something was built here is a kitchen cabinet with a very deep storage space which is inaccessible unless you are standing on a step stool or kneeling on the counter tops. I don't get why there is such an existence of any type of cabinet where it's practically like a miniature cave for containers or dishes and no doorway to access them in front. Unless you are very tall, even a 5'6" person like me can't pull anything back out of there unless I get on the counter and dig around for what I need. It's like a tunnel. As for neighbors, we had loiterers for a good more than half a year, until letters started being sent out for rules against it. Even maintenance workers liked to loiter around the front, making it very awkward for me to enter and leave my apartment unit. Finally a notice had been sent out, but there are still residents who loiter in groups and smoke on the steps. The smoke enters into my apartment and I am easily able to inhale it second hand which is bothersome since I am obviously not a smoker myself. I unfortunately live next to a lady with 2 kids who are very loud and when they act up, she decides to think that it's okay to yell at the top of her lungs at them. I would hear her yelling around 7am or during the evenings. This carried on for a good 2-3 months, but I think another resident complained and she finally stopped. As for maintenance, we had the top floor's water leak through and had unwelcome pouring rain into our own bath room. In other words, there was a weak pipe up there which caused water to leak down into our bath room which caused a mess and ruined one of our bath mats. The leaks happened 3 times in under 6 months. Our kitchen cabinet drawer also broke, but it had already been broken before we moved in. It was just cheaply "repaired" with duct tape. There have also been so many insects and bugs crawling into our apartment. Ants, scutigeras, crickets, cave crickets, beetles, spiders, etc... The bottom floor should be allowed to have a pet to catch these things when the resident is not home(preferably a cat). Moving onto the more positive things, this apartment is very decent if you have low income and just need a temporary place to stay. Way better than paying the same price for a tinier studio apartment somewhere else. The fact that the location is in the middle of fairfax and tysons is awesome. All the highways are close by as well as the Dulles Airport. There is, of course the Reston Town Center as well! The only utility we have to pay for is water. It's nice that the electricity and gas is free, since those are the things used the most. Although frequent maintenance was needed, they always showed up on time and very quickly whenever needed. Announcements were always sent out to let residents know anything that was going on as well. The leasing staff is very friendly and helpful.
