Resident 2009 - 2012

11/13/2012

My wife, our two boys, and I have lived here for the past three years while I was in law school. These apartments are very good for the price, and close to Regent University and I-64, and convenient to I-264. We plan on staying for a few more years until we've saved up enough for a house. Pros: *Our apartment is fairly large and comfortable. *We've had no problem with pests, other than the occasional spider that gets in the front door (they're just wolf spiders, by the way, which are harmless and eat other bugs). *The maintenance staff is top-notch and responds quickly. *Management is polite and friendly. *Parking is assigned, with extra spaces available for visitors. We've always been happy with the parking. *Our neighbors are very quiet (with two boys, we're probably the noisy ones!). As with all apartments, noise levels depend on your immediate neighbors, not the management. *There is a nice grocery store (Harris Teeter) immediately adjacent to the property, which we love. Super convenient. *The grounds are well-kept, and they are always doing little things to improve it. They've put in some new landscaping near us in the past year that have improved the look considerably. *It's located in a safe area. If you're not from the area, this is very important -- you don't want to accidentally rent an apartment and find out that the area is unsafe after dark. Cons: *Apparently some people are afraid of the foxes. Yes, the foxes. A family of foxes have taken up residence in the small shrubby area between the store and the apartments. We've never had a problem with them at all (we think they are really cool) but some people are afraid of them. So if you are afraid of foxes, you've been warned. They are not rabid, or dangerous. Just there. *The apartments were built in the 80's out of mid-grade materials. So it's not the Ritz. It's just an ordinary apartment. That said, the management has been updating the kitchens recently in the empty units, so ask for one of those at the office. *Two years ago there was a rash of burglaries in this part of town, which was very unusual. No one was hurt (they broke in during the day when people were at work) and it's stopped, so I guess they were caught. Around the same time, I forgot to lock my car one night and the next day a few things were missing. Maintenance actually came and told me in the morning when they saw my car door open (they are really good guys.) I've never had a problem since then. For Virginia Beach, this area is safe as long as you follow reasonable precautions, like locking your car. I've never heard of any violent crime in the area at all. That's about it. I'm an attorney now and could afford a "better" place, but my wife and I are happy to continue staying here for a while to save money. It's a nice place.
