Don't say I didn't warn you, don't consider living at Wooodshire Apartments. They've replaced carpet, cabinets, and doorknobs so the apartments will look good esthetically but they haven't addressed the big issues and plumbing is one. They have thin walls, and overall they are poorly up-kept apartments. I get they are old, and I've lived in old and up-kept, so old is not the problem. I've lived in many apartments and this is the worst I've ever encountered. They want you to think maintenance and office staff are professional and care, but they don't. Maintenance will do as little as possible to make you think you they fixed the problem. They'll keep coming back to NOT fix the problem. I wouldn't recommend Woodshire nor would any other tenants I spoke with would. I wish I had looked more closely at the reviews when choosing this apartment because when you look at the reviews there's a lot of fluff and cotton candy mixed in.       I seem to always be deployed. So for me, it s important to have a place where my family is comfortable and safe while I m away. Woodshire fits that need. There is a large area where my kids can play without disturbing other people. There is a dog park where we can take our dog and she can run freely without worries. The property is well lit and there are patrol cars that come around frequently to make sure everything is all right. There is even a state trooper who lives at Woodshire and he parks his car here when he is not working. We also have not had problems getting things fixed. Sure, a few things will break down from time to time, but the manager and the maintenance people will stay on top of it. Almost everything gets fixed the same day.         1. These apartments are super old and walls are very thin 2. There are BREAK INS and ROBBERIES and they choose not to send out notices to their residents but will let you know if there is a noise complaint as soon as possible. 3. The 2nd week you move in everything will fall apart. 4. I hope you love bugs because they will move in with you too 5. Depending on the mood of the water you may or may not have hot water but if you do its scolding hot. These apartments seriously suck! They are so not worth the price! Just walk around and speak to residents if you don't believe me.

          Dear Anonymous...this is Paul, one of the owners. I would like to talk to you about some of the issues you have had. Since you are anonymous, I do not know how to reach you, but if you are interested, please email me at pjost@chandler.bz. I am not aware of any break ins, but there were a few cars broken into. It wasn't just at our property, it was the entire area. We have asked our courtesy officers to be more vigilant and haven't had any problems since. We do try to enforce the noise rules. I don't think our apartments are old, but they are apartments. Unlike a house, you do have neighbors on the other side of the wall. It's different than living in a house. If you think that your neighbors are complaining about you unfairly, let me know and I'll see what I can do. We all have to live together, after all. There shouldn't be anything falling apart in your apartment, but if there is, I apologize. Again, let me know what it is and I will make sure it is fixed or replaced. My wife and I had a few bugs in our apartment when we first moved in, too. But pest control is pretty good and they are free. They took care of them. If you don't think it has been resolved, we can fix that as well. Regarding your water, we are replacing the fixtures and that is resolving the problem.           I agree with the previous review that Woodshire has greatly improved recently. My question is when are you going to have another party? I think parties are a good way to get to know other residents. For people who are new to the area, it s a great benefit. Another suggestion. You have one of the best fitness centers I have ever seen at an apartment complex. Why don t you bring someone in to train on how to use the equipment. You could have a personal trainer come in and set everybody up on their own fitness plan. This would be very helpful, in my opinion.

            I think Woodshire has greatly improved over the past two years. I am very impressed with the maintenance people. I have been here a good while. In the old days, whenever I needed something done, I had to ask several times. But during the last 11 months or so, that has not been the case. Whenever I have the slightest problem, it is taken care of that very day. Thank you Woodshire people for taking such good care of us.

              I have lived in lots of apartment complexes all over the country in the last 10 years so I know good ones and bad ones. I don t have any problems with this one. My neighbors are fine. The staff is fine. My kitchen and bathroom have been recently renovated, so I don t have any problems there either. Life is what you make of it. If you treat people right, they will treat you right and that is how I have been treated here. I can t think of any problems I have had that weren t taken care of right away.

                I'm giving this place an awful review because of how they treated me as i TRIED to move in. They ended up charging me twice because of the timeframes that I inquired. They didnt refund me the application fee when I told them I wished not to move in (because of a better deal I found at linkhorn, brookside and aspen) even though I declined my offer WITHIN the allowed timeframe. But I talked to a few residents walking along the street at different times of the day, and on several occassions. PARKING IS A NIGHTMARE. I must have driven through at all of the typical busy&non-busy times but never saw more than a handful f open spaces. lots of ppl parking along the streets and even some in the grass--who knows how they got out! The dumpsters are located conveniently, but the poolhouse and mailboxes are NOT. The stores right outside are not meant for singles walking around--SKETCHY! Male or female, just DONT do it.                   Heather and Lilia...this is Paul. I am one of the owners. The information I have is that you applied on July 3 and that you were supposed to move in on August 17. We reserved an apartment for you for almost six weeks and then you cancelled on the day you were supposed to move in for personal reasons unrelated to our apartment complex. That is why your deposit was kept. If this is not correct, please email me at pjost@chandler.bz and I will look into it for you. I'm sorry you felt the need to say all these things about our community. My wife and I live there when we are in town and we have not experienced any of the issues you mentioned. It seems to me that there is plenty of parking for example. And we are a short walk from the Virginia Beach Town Center. In fact, my wife and I often walk to restaurants there at night. And yes, the pool and the renovated fitness center are at the back of the property, and perhaps not convenient to people who live in the front of the property, but that is something you knew before you applied. Nonetheless, the pool is very popular with the free WiFi. And the fitness center is one of the nicest fitness centers of any apartment complex I have seen. Anyway, we have a lot of very happy residents here and I am sorry that you chose not to live here. But I hope that you are happy in your new community.

                  Lived on 1st floor and was like living below a kid that had just moved away from mommy and daddy. Fridays and Saturdays was open party till the sun come up. It was if there was a gay party going on, showing off each others dance moves. Always a bunch of male kids at these get togethers. Cigarettes butts thrown down on patio from above. Numerous complaints registered, some of the unruly kids finally moved out. Nerd that remained desperately needed some female attention. Too much built up energy and would spend hours EVERY DAY walking in circles through kitchen and living room wearing his Gomer Pyle boots. This was directly above our couch. Numerous complaints registered with no actions taken. During our delightful stay the company sold out and all office and maintenance people vacated the premises on the same day. New owners did not know that this had happened for several days. When moving out, found out that although we constantly conserved to get lower utility bills, this was in vain, since the utilities are divided up equally amongst all parties in the bldg.                     Horrible terrible apartments. I just recently moved from N.Y. and moved to Woodshire last year in April 2011. It was owned under a different management team at that time. Great management at that Time. When the new management took over which was about 2 months later, everything went down hill. Lets start with washer. Our washer started to overflow and leak everywhere everytime we try to wash our clothes. And we had to put so little amount of clothing in the washer because the washer was tiny. Maintenance came in the following day and took the washer to fix it. About an hour or two later he had returned the washer and said there was an issue with the washer, im not sure what the reason was. He fixed the washer from what he had said and put the same exact washer back in our place. So when he left we decided to try it we put it on and started to leak again. We were really agitated and had to call the office again. Apparently they were saying were putting too much clothes in the washer so we went threw about 7 to 8 loads to finish our clothes… See More>

                      Robert...I am one of the property owners and I'm familiar with your situation. I agree with some of your comments, and I apologize for the related problems, but some of your other comments are really not fair. First, you can't blame us for the washer being small since it was there before we bought the property. We are buying larger ones now that we are the owners. You are right to blame us for not fixing it right the first time. When we bought the property a year ago, we were told that all the maintenance men were staying. Then a day or so before the closing, we learned that they weren't. And it took us a while to find and hire good maintenance people. So yes, we had some bad ones, and we had to let them go. But the guys we have now are great and we've heard lots of good comments about them. Regarding the carbon monoxide, everthing happened as it's supposed to. I wish it hadn't happened, but the detector worked and notified you there was an issue. You didn't need to call the fire department, but I don't blame you for doing so. Once we learned there was a problem with the furnace, we bought you a completely new furnace. I'm not sure what you would have liked us to do other than that. You did go to the hospital to be checked out and they found minor traces of carbon monoxide. You asked us to pay the hospital bill, and we did. Again, I wish none of this had happened and I apologize that it did, but we did everything necessary to make it right. I wish you and your family well. Paul

                      Review from someone very hard to please.

                      Me and my fianc have been living at Woodshire Apartments for about two years now and have and still will recommend it to any of my friends/family. Please note that I'm a very hard to please person however under new management and personnel changes Woodshire has really become a great place to live. On Memorial Day our A/C unit went out. I checked the unit, refrigerant, and pipes to troubleshoot the problem to no avail. As all HVAC equipment things go wrong and this was an older unit so it was on its last leg anyway. Needless to say I called and left a voicemail for the management team at Woodshire regarding this issue hoping it would be resolved the next day. Now before hand "fixing" the issue meant recharging the unit and not actually spending the time and effort to resolve it completely. This Was not the case. I spoke with Paul, Cindy, and Terry who were very diligent in helping me regarding this matter. They kept me undated on everything that was going on.                         Great Community

                        My job keeps me travelling quite a bit. I m spending more time out of the country than in Virginia these days. But while I m gone, I don t feel that I need to worry about my wife and son, back at Woodshire. It s a good place, and we have good neighbors. We ve been at Woodshire for several years now and we re happy to live there. Recently, the new owners have done a lot of renovations, to the outside and the inside of the apartments. The pool and fitness center are outstanding, one of the best fitness centers I ve ever seen at an apartment complex. The pool opens memorial day weekend and my son and his friends are really looking forward to that.

                          I agree with the previous review. I pay my rent on time. I get along with my neighbors and the office because I treat people the way I would like to be treated. I also don t park in anybody else s reserved spot or play loud music late at night. So I haven t had any problems. Sure, things break down from time to time, but they get fixed pretty quickly. I can t remember anything that didn t get fixed right away. The rents are reasonable, and you can t beat the location.

By the way, have you seen our new dog park? The contractors finished building it last week. There are two sections, one for small dogs and one for large dogs. We should get the benches any day so that our residents can relax and meet other dog owners while their dogs are getting good exercise.

                            My thoughts

                            I ve seen some of the complaints so I felt I should write in. We ve been here two years. When the new owners took over about a year ago, they got off to a rocky start. But once they got their maintenance staff in place, things started improving. And they ve fixed a lot of problems that were probably there for many years before they took over. For example, they fixed a bad patch job in our apartment wall that was there when we moved in under the previous owners. We had a water leak which was fixed once before and again under the new owners. They told me last week they are getting bids on new gutters for my building which should fix that permanently. When our dishwasher broke down, they fixed it right away. We pay our rent on time. We don t play loud music. And we re friendly with our neighbors. So we get along fine with everyone.

Paul (one of the owners) PS Contrary to what the other commenter says, we have no relation to Harbor Group. The gutter solution is not a cheap fix. It will cost over $100,000. We wouldn't be doing it if we didn't think it would make the property better.                               When I first moved over a year ago, i always felt safe and liked living here. Yeah there are problems in the apt, but last night my sons tire on his car got stolen. Where is security. I used to see them driving around alot, but I haven't seen them in a while. This isn't gonna make me move right now, but the safety of my family and I worries me.

They say this sort of thing has been happening at properties all over the city. They are going to substantially increase their presence at our property.                                 Horrible! Just look at manager responses!

                                Woodshire is going downhill, and fast. Just look at the obnoxious, defensive responses from the manager on this website! The apartments are overpriced and desperately in need of repairs/upgrades. A professional person would apologize for problems and offer their customers anything possible to rectify the issues yet Paul says people are writing "false reviews out of spite" and keep mentioning things that happened before the current company owned the property. Lack of accountability is just the start of the problems here. P.S. Don't let the model fool you. The actual apartments are OLD. Cindy in the office has admitted the apartments look nothing like the model - how wall seams have been painted over and over and over, how there are no plans for upgrades, how the appliances are old. Yet they keep raising rent and the responses to problems take longer and longer to get fixed.

And we do apologize when we are in the wrong. We're not perfect, but we do our best. We do offer people anything possible to rectify their issues.                                   I m happy with my apartment. I ve been at Woodshire almost two years. I pay my rent on time so I don t have late notices or late charges. I check the utility bill each month and have never had a problem with it being wrong. I once called the 800 number because I had a question about the utility bill and the people at the utility company explained it to me very nicely and after that, it made sense. When something breaks down in my apartment, I send an email to the office and it gets fixed right away. I get along with my neighbors. I treat them with respect and they do the same with me. I don t have parking problems or noise problems.

                                    Don't do it.

                                    I chose Woodshire because I thought it was relatively cheap for the area. That cost reduction was not at all worth it, and actually became just as expensive as other places when they add their extra fees. I was paying an extra $100 a month for utilities (not including electricity). Those utilities were not metered and I was never given an adequate explanation for the charges. The staff at the office is constantly changing and never helpful. When I was out of town for Christmas my vehicle was towed because the tags expired while I was gone. They never called or gave me any notice and left me with an $800 towing bill. I'm also in the military and had to move out early due to deployment. I gave them two months of notice, visited two separate employees to ensure that I would have a smooth move out. I didn't receive orders until 15 days prior to deployment and gave them a copy the day I got them. I still had to pay for an extra month of rent because in my contract it stated that I needed to give those orders 30 days prior to move out. I talked… See More>

                                      Steve...I'm sorry you had confusion about your utility bills and that you did not understand the charges. You can call the utility company and they will explain them to you or you can email me at pjost@chandler.bz and I will go through them with you. We checked with the tow company and that happened Christmas a year ago before we bought the property so we don't have any information on it. This year, when we did own the property, your tags expired again but we made sure that you were NOT towed. I wish you had mentioned that in your review. How we looked out for you to make sure you were not towed. As far as your move out, you did NOT give the required notice. We normally need 60 days notice to be able to rerent an apartment. For the military, we only require 30 days notice. We need an exact move out date because otherwise how can we rent it to someone else if they don't know when they can move in. You did not give an exact move out date. You came to the office and said you would be breaking your lease but you didn't know when. When you finally knew your move out date and gave us the exact date, that is when the 30 days started.

                                      I've been here three years in which time there have been three different owners of the complex (AIMCO, Harbor Home and now Woodshire). They've been through at least 3 maintenance managers in the past few months which has caused delays and/or no response to maintenance requests. I'm still waiting on a new fridge, which I've asked about FIVE times in the past year, since the current fridge is rusted out and makes loud noises. Still no response. When the new management took over last year I wrote a list of concerns and had a walk through with a manager who promised the maintenance staff would call me within 24 hours - it's now been 7 weeks and nothing. I visited the office 2 weeks ago to remind them again that I was waiting on a reply - still nothing. I can't figure out if they just don't care or if they're so disorganized they can't keep things straight. The apartments and appliances are old. The walls have cracks. Previous patch work is POOR.                                         This is in response to Danielle. She is the second person on here, the one who says I am not going to do anything. In fact, we have been working on resolving the issues brought up by the first person and we are making it right. As to Danielle's comments, most are just not true. I did come to her apartment several times to help her with the complaints she had. I then immediately sent a maintenance man and then we hired an electrician who came out and fixed the problems she had. All of that was done promptly once I heard about it. My understanding is that Danielle was late on her rent four times in the past 9 months. When she moved out, she wanted us to write a letter of reference for her saying she had never been late. When we said we could not do that, she became very mad and now she just wrote this false review and another one out of spite. That really is not a nice thing to do.                                         Lived a lot of places

                                        I ve lived a lot of places in my life. The worst was in Rota, Spain. The best was in San Diego, but I was paying $3,000 a month for a two bedroom apartment. Woodshire is somewhere in between. Not as nice as the place in San Diego, but a lot nicer than the place in Spain. And I m only paying $1,039 for my two bedroom apartment at Woodshire. It s large, it s clean, and everything works. The neighborhood is pleasant and the neighbors are easy to get along with. For the money, you can t beat it.

                                          I have just recently moved to the Woodshire apartment community and am very impressed with the accommodations thus far. I downsized from a two bedroom to a one bedroom and was concerned about my furnishings fitting into the space but after getting everything situated inside I had no problems at all. Prior to moving in the friendly office and maintenance staff went out of their way to make sure that my new home was equipped with brand new carpeting throughout, updated light fixtures in every room, and an updated thermostat for my heating and cooling system. I was expecting to see the average small stackable washer and dryer in my apartment but was pleasantly surprised to find a washer and dryer that are so big I can wash and dry my blankets and comforters at home instead of the Laundromat. The washer is digital and plays a little jingle/tune when the cycle is done....lol. I did have a couple of issues with the front door and the bathroom plumbing the first couple of days that I was there but the maintenance guy came out immediately to fix them for me, (after hours on a Saturday),now thats some 24 hour maintenance… See More>

                                            New Maintenance Guy

                                            They hired a new maintenance guy. The last guy just couldn t fix my dishwasher. The new guy fixed it in about 15 minutes and it has now been working fine for several days. Hopefully I won t have any more trouble. He s also a lot nicer than the last guy. Thank you. This was my only issue with my apartment and I'm glad that it's resolved.

                                              My Experience at Woodshire

                                              My experience at Woodshire has been good. I have been here just under a year. I haven t had maintenance problems. I have been well treated by the people who work at Woodshire. I like the facilities, especially the new fitness center with free wifi. I also like the free wifi at the pool. I am looking forward to the new dog park and I m going to renew my lease.

                                                I think these apartments are amazing have lived there almost a year have never had any problems the entire time living there the office staff is VERY excellent and i would recommend these to anyone!

                                                  New management made us decide NOT to renew. Rented from 2010-2011

                                                  My husband and I lived at Woodshire for 1 year (2010-2011). I am very happy to say we are NOT renewing our lease! Woodshire recently went through some changes in management. When they took over a few months ago things have gone downhill. I wish the old management/employees would come back! The old company was super friendly and nice and there when you needed them. No matter what they were doing when you would drive by them they would wave and smile. When something was broken (oven, towel rack, air conditioning, washer/dryer, etc,) they would be out to fix it that day or the following morning. The new management team is not so friendly, going into the front office is a bother, a chore and I dread it!! The ladies are very snotty, rude and not so friendly (always giving attitude and excuses for EVERYTHING). When I put in a call to have something done they said they would put a work order in and someone would be out shortly to fix it.
