We were supposed to move in to this "renovated" unit, but they wouldn't let us see it at all until the day before the move-in (claiming that they were still working on the apartment). We went to take a look at the apartment before even stepping in the office the day before move-in, and this is what made us decide to lose the $474 rather than move in there:
* the front door was unlocked, as well as all windows
* window screens were lying around outside the apartment on the ground, in water and mud
* the appliances were ancient. We are talking brown with huge silver dials from the 80s style. Washer/dryer/stove and dishwasher all very old. If you are claiming that all your places are renovated, and charging $1425 for month, you can't stick people with ancient hardware.
* there is no way that apartment was 1000 sq feet. I know because I lived in a 1000 sq feet apartment for years. It's just not physically possible. We didn't take a tape measure with us, but I recommend you go and do your own measurements. That was the main reason why we decided not to move there after all, place was too small.
* management was not very responsive. I called twice with a question (after putting deposit down), was promised to be called back and nothing happened.
* when we put the deposit down, we wrote two checks - one for holding, one for credit check. The holding check for $400 cleared within days - the credit check for $74 took 44 days to post. Did they lose it?
* when we told them we're not taking the place over the phone, the management was flat out rude.
Overall, that place is not worth the $1425 a month. We decided to lose the money and not pack ourselves in that shady place. Do your walk through before you even give them the holding money.
