Resident 2007 - 2009

7/16/2009

Unlike some of the other reviews, we actually liked the management, and we love the maintanence guy, Rigo. He's super nice, but he is totally overworked. I've always gotten along with the manager really well (at least one of them; the assistant manager drives me a little nuts). How one person/family feels about management compared to how another feels is always going to be extremely subjective and based on experience. So I'm not here to review the management at all, though I like them. I'm here to tell you about our experience living in this place for two years. Honestly, the real problem with this place, other than the fact that the buildings were built in the 1950s or 1960s and haven't been properly renovated for electrical wiring and plumbing? The other residents, and their god-forsaken spawn. Seriously, it's a parking lot, people, not a playground, and don't you care that your children may get run over on a daily basis? The kids a) do not look to see if cars are coming, b) when they finally notice someone's trying to park, they sloooooooooowly "get out of the way" (barely), and c) have no parental supervision 85% of the time. This is a King County Property Affordable Housing community. And that's great - every area should have some affordable properties that young families, such as myself, my husband, and child, can afford to live in. What totally sucks is the trash that comes along with these places, and I'm not talking about the garbage dumpsters (although those are pretty gross, too.) For nearly a year, it sounded like there was a techno rave going on in the apartment above us. And this one family always lets their dogs bark their little heads off, all three of them. (Yes, three little yappers in one apartment, and I believe they have cats too.) That same family is 2 floors above us, and refuse to listen to the maintanence guy's pleas that they not shove whatever they want down our extremely outdated garbage disposals, into extremely outdated pipes. Their kitchen habits have caused OUR kitchen to flood with THEIR nasty, black-ish green-ish water no less than 4 times that I can remember. I may have blocked the rest out. Also, speaking of pipes, we can't drink the water here. In fact, we tried getting water pitchers with filters, such as Pur and Brita, but the water here is so filled with crap, that the water would start running through the filtration system at a snail's pace after only 3 or 4 weeks. Yuck. The positive things: the units are absolutely huge, with tons of storage. They don't have washer dryers in the units, but the laundry rooms have high efficiency machines, with two of each (2 washers, 2 dryers). Back to negatives again: The doors on the closets are so old, sometimes they won't open all the way, or fall of the tracks really easily, so even though there's a lot of storage, don't think it'll be completely easy to get to. We got new carpet, new linoleum, recovered countertops, and some new appliances, but the cupboards in our kitchen are ancient, and they have different fixtures. Also, the light fixtures don't match. I don't think they give the places a complete paint job in between renters, so the "facelift" of new flooring/countertops doesn't quite cut it. I thought so when moving in, but I gradually found more and more things that were falling apart. There are a ton of weird little things about these apartments, just from them being so old. A bunch of the drawers in our kitchen stick, or are just completely off the tracks. I feel like I should mention the closet doors again because it is just SO annoying. And they squeak really bad - I am afraid to get something out of the hall closet after my baby's in bed, and I have to hold both sides of the door and move it really slowly. Why SHOULD you rent here? - If you are stone broke, it's a roof over your head, and it is in Newport Hills, Bellevue, so it's convenient to the East Side. You will not find a bigger floorplan in bellevue for this price. (It's July 2009 - we pay $920 for a two bedroom two bath). The rooms are spacious - our master bedroom is enormous, and I've never seen a bigger living room in an apartment. Why SHOULDN'T you rent here? - If you have enough money, go someplace else. My husband and I got raises, and we're going to go spend $205 more a month to live in a complex we have loved in the past (Kelsey Ridge - we had a one bedroom there a few years a go, and the buildings/complex/neighbors/management are great - sooooo quiet).
