Resident 2018

1/14/2019

This review has been long overdue and it is important to WARN every person to run away from this place. Moving here was the WORST experience I have ever had as a resident and the way that residents are treated here, WEIDNER/ASPEN CREEK shouldn't be even open for business. This is a company that would use poor judgment in handling a resident's move in, who would use poor materials, not fix the issues prior, plaster things on walls unprofessionally, not replace previously stained, smelly carpets to take advantage of you as a resident and upon move out GOUGE you for every penny you have deposited. Your deposit basically works in a manner were they will take as much as they can out of it, to fix previous maintenance issues they don't permanently fix before you move in. Upon move out, they will also charge you for carpet cleaning. This is a MANDATORY charge from them. We had offered to clean it on our own and they will tell you: "This will not be meeting the standard's of Weidner corporation". We understand it has been a little while that we have moved out, but its been on our minds to write this review, specially after reading ------'s review, which we believe is the same unit we rented. This is for apartment ---- and our move in was August 2018. Before we moved in, they did NOT allow us to see the unit. Based on the assurance we got from -------------- (leasing consultant), by showing us a layout of the place and assuring us that the place will be ready for move in, we trusted her judgment. I was unfortunately a transfer resident from another sister complex, and could not get out of this lease until done. Aspen FAILED in really showing me how this unit physically looked like before our move in, as when we did, all sorts of issues started. When we moved in, the place was much smaller than the pictures indicated, and the unit had man unresolved maintenance issues. The carpet was old, should have been replaced before we moved in, smelled like mold and still moist upon move in. ALL the doors were chipped, every frame of doors and corners. The door of the washing and drying machine, came off the hinges several times and the pipe underneath the kitchen sink leaked water frequently. The windows in the kitchen fell as they had lost its capacity to stay put. They kitchen windows and leak underneath the sink took weeks to repair, as they told us they 'DID NOT' have the parts in stock to fix them. COME ON! ASPEN, you had pre-existing issues before in this unit and you simply did not take care of them previously! You were lazy, cheap and waited until new residents moved in, so that the problem persisted and we had to be inconvenienced over and over by you to fix these problems. As new residents upon move in, YOUR DUTY was for us to have an apartment that had NO pre-existing issues. Why the hell, do we give you a deposit for? It's not to fix previous resident maintenance issues. AGAIN, ASPEN, you only care about taking the money, the priority of the resident's live in conditions is your LEAST priority. NONE of these maintenance issues in this unit were new. The yard was a muddy and a nasty mess. There is no grass in that area, so when it rained, all that mud made it impossible to walk around or let the dogs step anywhere in the backyard. We had to constantly clean it .Their grounds 'might' seem that are taken care off, from the visible areas as you drive in, but what ASPEN does not show you, is what UNSEEN areas of these units really look like, as they do not take care of them properly. This is why they tell you when you ask to see the unit before move in, that you can't see the unit so that they neightbor's privacy isn't violated. What they are really telling you, is that they DO NOT want you to see the condition the UNIT is really in. To top it off, the same week we moved in with all these maintenance issues, the front door lock broke. This happened over the weekend and even though we called maintenance and you consider this an emergency, NO ONE came that weekend to fix it. We were basically locked out and couldn't go anywhere, since we couldn't lock our own door. REALLY RIDICULOUS. Unfortunately this is not the worse that has happened, as our move out was even worse. Due to the UNLIVABLE conditions and the misrepresentation to us of the size of the unit that we needed for our furniture, we sent notice of our intent to vacate the premises, after only living there for one week. --------- (Community Director) was HORRIBLE in making this move out a reasonable and fair move out for us. She gave us no credit for all the hell we had to live in in this unit. We understand that by terminating the lease early, there is a two month's rent penalty. While we understand the contractual obligation to pay two months rent when breaking the lease early, we considered a bad business practice and the CORPORATE OFFICE should have waived this provision given the facts of all the problems we had, they did not waive the provision, or work with use on it, we were only there one week, and they re-rent this place quickly profiting at our expense. To add insult to injury they further GOUGED us by not refunding our entire pet deposit of $1,200. They kept half of our deposits when our dogs were only there for one week and the carpet was already nasty upon move in. They should have also waived again while we understand the provision allows this, they should have waived this provision as well. As a result, we LOST over $5,000 to move out of an UNLIVABLE place that we only lived in for ONE week. This was literally GOUGING us for money. --- what damage could the dogs have done in a week? Where is your ethical and common sense of thinking? --------- could have walked in anytime and could have seen with her own EYES, the condition the unit was in, but she did not bothered at all. And to further make matters worse they charged us to clean our carpet and subtracted it from our security deposit. We would hope that WEIDNER shows the professionalism to do the right thing and refund the money they took from us.
