I recommend this apartment complex ONLY if you have the stomach for SIGNIFICANT rent increases every year.
My apartment rent went up at least $100/month each of the first 3 years I was there. Dutifully I swallowed these increases during a recession -- even when my employer froze our pay. But Skip Berg, the Villaggio owner, kept increasing the rent.
Then came the real punch in the gut: my last renewal came in at $1100/month increase, PLUS new parking and maintenance fees totaling another $150. This represents a 44% increase from 2011 to 2012.
If a 44% year-over-year increase is something you'd be ok paying, then you'll love the Villaggio. Finishes are great, location is second to none, and it's lovely during the 1 month out of the year that it's not raining. Obviously Skip wants to get rid of the long-term tenants and start over, so you're just the type of person he's looking for.
Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be working. After the considerable trouble of unsuccessfully trying to negotiate with Prometheus/Skip Berg/etc., I took the life-disrupting step of moving. Now I see that the same apartment is available for $2400, which is $120 LESS than I was paying before.
So I guess he's willing to raise the rent to throw good tenants out even if the apartments sit vacant. Great business strategy.
