Resident 2010 - 2011

8/6/2012

TERRIBLE! There are some good things, but the bad out weigh them considerably. Goods: -Not totally dangerous (Ill get back to this in bads) -The staff is usually fairly friendly -The initial advertised prices are ok (Ill get back to this as well) -There is adequate parking. Youll never not have a space, through sometimes you may need to walk a bit from another building. Bads: - The apartments are tiny for the price you pay, and after your first year they jack up the prices 150 bucks, hoping you arent willing to move again. If you are crazy enough to pay over 800 bucks a month to live in a 2nd or 3rd story 600 square foot apartment in North Lynnwood, you deserve to lose your money. I found a new apartment for 100 bucks less with the same amenities and an extra bedroom just down the road. - Unsecured buildings = strangers roaming the hallways and making night time solicitations. I cant tell you how many times different people would knock on my door at 7, 8, 9 , 10 and yes even 11 O clock at night claiming to sell newspapers and magazines (I have a feeling at least a few were casing out the places). Because theirs is no lock on the building doors, anyone can get in. Expect to see strangers just 'hanging out' or arguing or dealers banging on the doors in the hallways randomly. And the police are useless. Youll see them roaming the building every now and then as well, yet though they will knock and question every latino, black and indian resident, strangely they seem blind to the obvious (not minority) college kids or dealers who openly sell on the property. - Damaged fire alarms = Randomly every night for a MONTH, the fire alarm would go off in one of the buildings forcing everyone to evacuate. This occurred regularly for a week before the landlords even bothered responding. And their response was 'Its not vandals, we are dealing with the problem' on a cheaply printed sheet of paper pinned on the outside doors. They would not even take any of the residents calls. They becan screening, even during business hours. No apology. No offer of reduction in rent due to loss of quiet enjoyment. Just a "Shut up about it, stop calling us, were working on it." Imagine being woke up every work or school weeknight between 2 and 5am by firealarms. It was a nightmare. And though the complex is behind a fire station, it took the FD 30-25 minutes to bother to arrive the 500 feet distance and check the building to find no fire. The fines alone from having to come out every night for a week must have cost Campo Basso tens of thousands of dollars, probably prompting the massive rent uptick. - Shared water billing: The water utility is billed by building, not be unit. Sadly, this means that you will pay massive charges for other peoples water usage, washer/dryer usage, and their frequent (even in winter) watering of the mostly muddy grass outfront. Good luck with that. -DOG crap in the hallways AND all over the sidewalks. For whatever reason, none of the dog owners in half the buildings bothered to clean up after their animals, so there will be dog crap all over the place. Even in some of the buildings hallways. And itll stay there until maintenance comes once a month to clean it. -FLEAS! Either from some of the dog or cat owners or previous tenants, my apartment (and hallways) was crawling with fleas. Had to spend $$$ on carpet treatments and a fogger to get rid of them. Wasnt sure it was a big problem and thought it was just allergic reactions until one day I was doing chores in my socks and noticed jumping black bugs were all over them and my pant legs. Disguising! Overall there are some good things about Campo Basso, but ultimately the bad significantly outweigh the good. I would not recommend anyone stay unless it was their absolute last option...which would be difficult in Lynnwood given the amount of other apartment rentals.
