Resident 2011 - 2012

WARNING! DO NOT MOVE INTO THIS COMPLEX! My husband and I had moved into this complex in June of 2011. We thought it was a great complex and since it was our first apartment we thought we were getting a decent price for the location, and quality of apartment. We started out paying $1115 a month for ONE bedroom ONE bathroom. 651* sq ft. We had a pretty good experience until our washing machine broke and flooded half of our apartment. Maintenance came and fixed it immediately but did a HORRIBLE job putting the carpet back into place. One of the guys basically ripped chunks of carpet off the edges and ofcourse he just stapled it back like it was no big deal. There were areas that were done so poorly that we would be walking and would constantly step on nails on the edge. We had mentioned this to the office staff but nothing was done about it. We decided to just let it slide because we were planning on moving out within the next 2 months anyway when our lease expired. Well, a little while later we had decided to mention it again and so the manager as well as a maintanence guy came to check out what the problem was and ACCUSED us of having a cat because they had never seen carpet so messed up like that before! They would not drop it and were convinced we had a cat! Keep in mind that I am DEATHLY allergic to cats! And to top it all off the manager found a yellow carpet stain in the corner that has been there ever since we moved in and confirmed that we in fact had a cat. THE STAIN HAS BEEN THERE EVER SINCE WE MOVED IN AND WE HAD WRITTEN IT ON OUR MOVE IN CHECKLIST! She felt it and said it was sticky so it HAD to have been fairly recent and that if it wasn't that there would be stuff stuck to it. UH HELLO, IT'S IN A CORNER NEAR A DOOR, WHAT IN THE WORLD WOULD STICK TO IT IF IT'S IN AN AREA THAT DOESNT GET WALKED ON OR TOUCHED?! Plus I keep my house nice and clean so even if something WERE to stick to it I would've vacuumed it up by now.. So then, we had been getting renewal offer emails from them offering us a "great" rate. We were pretty certain that we would be moving out because I was 7 months pregnant and we wanted a bigger and more affordable place so we ignored the emails. Well we had a hard time finding anything within our budget that was still in about the same area so we decided to keep our options open and go find out what our renewal rate would be. If it happened to be cheaper well maybe we'd consider living there for another year or so.. We went in there on a THURSDAY and were given the renewal rate. It was about $150 more than what we were currently paying so we were like no thank you. Anyway our leasing agent (--------------) convinced us that rates were going way up by next week so if we didnt want to pay higher rent we had to make a decision by FRIDAY! Which was the NEXT DAY! My husband and I were a little afraid because we knew if we didnt find somewhere else to live and rent went up we would not be able to afford it. She even said she cou;ld be a little flexible with the renewal offer and give us a discount of like $30 a month. The next day we ended up chosing to renew our lease which (which did not expire for another 2 months) would now be $1238 a month. FOR A ONE BEDROOM ONE BATHROOM 651 SQ FT!! We felt completely forced into renewing our lease and felt like we had no other choice! Couple weeks later out of curiousity I decided to go onto their website and see the current apartment rates. Well boy was I PISSED when I saw that the rates were almost $300 cheaper than what we were paying!! There was an even bigger apartment that was almost $400 cheaper than ours! I called them and asked if it was possible for us to switch to a different apartment in the complex. They told me yes but if you were going to a cheaper apartment the fee would be ONE MONTHS RENT THAT YOU ARE CURRENTLY PAYING plus $300* move in fee. And if you were going to an expensiver apartment it would be a flat rate of $500. SERIOUSLY?! We went in and talked to a manager and she said there was nothing she could do for us and that she "was soooooooooooooo sorry!" A few days later we decided to lose money and walk away from a HORRIBLE experience. We were charged 1 1/2 months rent to break our lease and the sad thing is that our RENEWAL LEASE had not even started yet! We still had a month before it went into effect. So we were screwed over big time. Once we had turned in our keys and all that, we were told that we had not given a refundable security deposit so they would send us a bill for the carpet cleaning and apartment cleaning. $75* for one and $90* or so for the other.. REALLY?! Aren't you required to give the refundable and nonrefundable at move in??? I decided to look over my stored files and discovered that we had paid an $175 refundable deposit! LIARS!! SERIOUSLY SAVE YOURSELF A HEADACHE AND A TON OF MONEY AND DO NOT MOVE IN HERE! HORRIBLE HORRIBLE!!
