Resident 2009

9/18/2009

When I first moved in I thought this place was the answer to everything I needed. I guess I was mistaken. This is the first apartment I've lived in in Washington. The parking is stellar here. No doubt about it. And Peter is one of the best maintenance guys I have ever met. My complaints are with the management and other residents. Management- Why exactly are we charged a background check if you let mentally unstable people move in with a police record? Especially when as soon as they move in they begin harassing women in the apartment complex. Approaching them in the garbage area, coming up to them when they are alone and being pushy. Then instead of kicking him out they relocate a girl bc she put a restraining order against him. Yeah, I feel safe. Then there is the fact that we do in fact pay for all the water, garbage etc as a community. I find that is not the best system since half the time the sprinklers are shooting up like a geyser around the dog walking area. And when it is reported they don't do anything about it. Also, several times while crossing to walk my dog I as well as others have been almost hit by the cars driving through. It's a blind corner and yet people feel that 15mph into a dead end is appropriate. We've asked for ONE speedbump to slow people down since a duck (who hasn't returned) was hit by one of the residents who was an then got defensive about speeding through his own parking lot. Nothing is ever done about those residents. NOTHING. That's great. Lets wait until they hit a child, oh wait they don't really have kids here so liability isn't an issue until someone rather than animal is hit. They hire shoddy maintenance groups (not Peter) to paint the curbs red, as if we don't know that it's a fire lane since they were already painted red...yet again another waste of my money. Or the "landscaping" they even advertise about...yeah right! I'll never understand why they have an island of waist high hedges so that cars can't see people walking through the parking lot to get to their cars or to the garbage area. None of the complaints are taken seriously. Even the ones that could save them money, such as the speed bump. I guess it doesn't matter to Bre who gets hurt or feels unsafe as long as the rent is still paid. If I had known I was going to be paying a hefty chunk to be treated this way I would have reduced my rent substantially and rented in the less appealing apartments. At least they are up front about their unsavory parts. Oh and Bre offers cash incentives to get people in these apartments now, so if you want to gamble with your living environment you could split the cash prize with a current resident! Mine as well for as much as they charge! The apartments themselves are ok. We've been infested with ants twice, and I guess it's pretty common. I rarely hear my neighbors, they are older and sweet, I will miss them when I do leave this place. So no noise complaints either. The upstairs neighbor doesn't walk around much but when he does you can definitely tell where he is going. I am backed up to 405 so the traffic noise is incessant when the windows are even cracked. I try and pretend it's the ocean :) but that doesn't work. The carpet is layered on top of a thin layer of padding making it very uncomfortable to sit on for long periods, trust me you will notice! So, keep your windows closed, don't sit on the floor and beware of creepy guys. Yeah, this is not my ideal living situation. The residents- I've only met a handful of decent residents here. It seems like as soon as we moved in the Stepford feel disappeared and the real ------ came out. The resident who harasses women also dives through the dumpsters, who knows what for but he often brings out hubcaps, empty cereal boxes and other rubbish. He by himself made me want to break my lease, if only I could afford to! Lets not forget the "security patrol" that we pay for! They actually only come around 4 times through the night and when I first moved in they were racing like Nascar through the parking lot to check the garage door and zip off to the next spot. So imagine how unhappy I was when someone "forgot their keys" and was breaking into the garage underneath the building, for an hour and a half. And there was NO security guards in sight. What exactly are we paying for? All in all, save your money and your time. I've noticed an increase in the turnover so obviously something isn't working for others in this complex. It's not working for me cause as soon as the lease is up I'm taking my ball and finding another home. Parking is great but it's not worth this hassle! Oh and if you own a dog, be careful in the dog walking area they have, deer ticks and other critters will nibble on your pooch. Cause they don't "landscape" that part of the community. Nor will they every put up a fence around it so the dogs can run, but hey if you want your dog to get hit just try crossing the street to walk them. I wouldn't complain so bitterly about this if there was a safer way for me to cross the street without having to go back towards the pool and use the sidewalk on the back end of the building to go all the way around.
