I lived at the Ascona for just under two years, and though management was some of the most considerate I've ever had, I do have quite a few complaints. The units are very clean and newly remodeled - that and the low rent were the initial selling points. However, the bed bug situation made it difficult to enjoy the amenities. Also, on three (yes, three) different occasions, the entire building was woken up past midnight by the fire alarm and forced to stand outside for forty-five minutes. Thankfully it was the summer and the fire department was literally next door, but it was unacceptable to happen on three separate instances. Parking can be tricky and free to park spots are a rare commodity. It can also get very expensive quickly - I spent what seemed a fortune ($200 /mo.) feeding the meters and paying off parking tickets. The stadiums are nearby so parking on days where there are events it is beyond impossible to find a spot within miles - especially in the late summer/early fall where baseball, concerts, soccer, and football peak. Being near the bus station is very handy though. Also, I cant site any specific instances aside from shady people lurking at the back entrance, but I was always worried about security. Overall, management and relatively cheap(ish) rent made all of this somewhat bearable, but I unfortunately wouldn't recommend the Ascona unless you're on a budget, don't drive, frequent sporting events/international district, or work downtown.
