old building, nice area, great view

I have lived at the Martinique for several years, it is my home. The new management company recently raised my rent over 30%. I knew I was due for an increase but certainly not that much! My carpeting is in rags, under the sinks the floors have rotted away due to water damage, there is a strong mold smell on some of the floors. The apartments are not energy efficient so heat costs are very high. By that I mean around $300 for two months. Some units only have partial heat throughout. The building is being upgraded as people move out (which they want), but they are not putting thermo pane windows in, nor buying energy efficient appliances and they are not changing the ceiling heat system which is very very old. there is no washer dryer in the units and the building is not a secure building. To live here you must put up with the various problems. The best part of this building is the view. I did in the past suggest to a friend to move into the building but they loved the view but left after being cold for two winters and paying huge electric bills. I will say I like the manager, she seems very up on things and eager to get the job done. I also liked the prior manager who they fired. For all it's flaws it's home. Not all of us like to move, so we put up with the stuff and just get over it. Fortunately with a good on-sight manager we will see some changes. I don't like the cost of living here, but it's home...
