Resident 2012

5/8/2012

The building: Quiet, secure, good space for the money. Seriously, walk down to Uwajimaya Village if you don't mind paying $100-200 more a month in rent for the same space. It's on a dead end street and up the hill from the ID proper, so you get a lot less traffic noise. You may hear I-5 from some units, but after two days it was like white noise. I actually miss it. The dishwasher and washer-dryer in unit were a great bonus. The fitness center was definitely nice when you don't feel like running in the dark in 40 degree drizzle. Killer view. There's a lot of dog people in the building, but aside from the occasional barking in the hallway, I never heard any pet noises or other noise in my unit. I didn't own a car, but the parking rates were better than other options in the area. The property management: Mila was great. Always responsive, always helpful, and always friendly when you passed her in the halls. The area: So...the ID gets a bad reputation as being one of the more unsavory areas of Seattle. My experience is with East Coast cities, where there is ACTUAL crime and neighborhoods where even minding your own business you are actually in danger. If you're coming from a small town in the midwest, you might experience a little culture shock, but I never felt unsafe in the neighborhood. The same common sense applies in the ID as it should in Magnolia if you're walking alone at night. Other than that, it's a short walk to the bus tunnel/light rail, and almost all of the buses that come through Seattle run up 3rd Avenue just a few blocks away, so it's real easy to get around without a car. It's a steep hill to get up to the building, but who couldn't use a little extra exercise? I absolutely would recommend this apartment to someone who wants to be close to downtown and transit hubs, and doesn't want to pay a ridiculous amount of money to live in an overpriced shoebox in Capitol Hill. I only moved because I decided to get a roommate to save some money, but for living alone in a 1BR apartment, you can't beat the rent at Metropolitan Park.
