Resident 2011

8/1/2011

Renewing lease for 4th year. Stunning Mountain View of the Cascade Crest from the Issaquah Alps to Mt. Baker from our patio and life in Magnolia close to Fremont, Queen Anne & Downtown where I work are what brought us here. Spacious unit & parks nearby for our dog. Having read the other reviews on this site & others clearly there's a wide spectrum. It's a huge complex, that's partly why-much different crowd in the bottom units in certain buildings than in the Penthouses (we're somewhere in between). Probably 65% of the units have dogs. If you don't like dogs this may not be the place for you. That said I've never seen anyone fail to clean up after their dog. There is evidence that it happens after dark but the Overlook does what can be done-the landscapers meticulously clean it up every Monday and there are abundant dog stations with garbage and bags around the complex. We park on the street free never more than 2 blocks away but are probably in the most favorable building within the complex for this. As for the comments about the staff I've been in the office and heard many outrageous requests and bad attitudes from other tenants. Sometimes it's hard to believe what people expect and why they approach it the way they do. Our personal experience with the staff continues to pleasantly surprise me. Their job's tough and they have always been courteous, responsive in a timely manner & very friendly-that's been consistent even with a lot of turnover. This year our unit developed several issues needing maintenance-the buildings are not brand-new & the rainforest can get to them. Window seal needed fixing-they hired a lift to come in to raise someone up to fix it. Bad board in the deck rotting through-they hired an outside contractor to come in and rebuild the whole deck surface. Garbage Disposal, leaky or clogged pipes and probably 1/2 dozen other minor things all were fixed at our convenience and quickly despite our dog barking her head off at whoever was doing the work. To me the bottom line is this is one of the nicest neighborhoods in Seattle-very close to the best of what's going on in town. The homes on this street are $500k-$1M. Our view is as good as theirs. While the building isn't new-they fix it when needed (not the case at our prior residence). For the price it cannot easily be beat and in general people probably get about the customer service they deserve I would imagine-but I've seen the staff here do their best to handle things as well as possible. I have lots of clients that are rental property owners and most are neither understanding nor diplomatic-nor are they anxious to put money toward maintenance or repairs. So we probably won't live here forever but it gives us a place to save money and ride out the real estate volatility until the point we can buy what we want where we want to. In the meantime we live in one of the best neighborhoods anywhere-got to go run the dog in Discovery Park above the beach in the sun now-then come back and watch daylight fading over the mountains.
