I've lived here at the Qualman Apartments for about 9 months now, and i will probably renew my lease when the time comes to do so. I read the other review of this place, and found it to be quite outdated, so i thought i would leave my input on the current status.
Its seems as though the repairs that the previous review mentioned (the ones that were "supposably in the works") have been dealt with since:
-there is no longer any flooding in the laundry room
-they've been busy repairing the floors in the units (mine were re-finished right before i moved in)
-the lights only flicker if too many appliances are plugged into the same outlet and running at the same time (such as a microwave and a toaster)
-the heating is fairly consistent
-and i would hardly call the building "shabby" as it has abundant architectural charm and some lovely flower gardens in the front
-the building is quiet
-the neighborhood is peaceful for the most part
-any animals living in the building are polite and well-trained to my knowledge
-all maintenance requests i've had have been handled within a week, and always at my convenience
-my unit has only been entered once by the owner, and they gave me a full four days notice (they were appraising the building)
My opinion of this building is one of contentment. Its a nice neighborhood for the area, its quiet, its conveniently located near grocery sores, gas stations, parks, and coffee shops, and the tenants, manager, and neighbors all seem quite friendly.
the rent is slightly pricey, but certainly not the most expensive for what you get, and definitely not bad for Capitol Hill.
i would recommend it.
