Resident 2006 - 2007

9/22/2007

The previous two reviews nailed it right on the head. What this complex needs is -1- an on-site manager to help control tenants and -2- a serious updating. Here are a few tidbits to whet your appetite: --Aluminum framed sliding doors and windows provide little insulation in the winter. Oh yes, I actually had to SCRAPE ice from my sliders in the winter...and off my carpet. --Good luck getting in touch with the "manager". He's here from I'd guess after 9 am to MAYBE if you're lucky 4:15. And since I actually WORK during the week.... --A few days ago I witnessed one of the most appalling things I've seen in Spokane...children, playing IN the dumpster. You know, standing on garbage to reach in and pull more garbage out to play with. SICK SICK SICK. I think even alley cats have more sense. --Whereas I can rarely hear my neighbor beside me, I most certainly can hear every conversation and footstep from the tenants below. Terrible insulation. --These apts were built in 1981-82. And everything is still the original. Let me relate a little story to help bring it into focus: Right after I moved in, I noticed that the oven would turn off after I had turned it on. I would have to flip the switch on-off, on-off, on-off many many times. Then it would turn on. I'd walk away for a few to let it warm up. When I'd go into the kitchen to put dinner in. Oh, looky looky. It's off again. And now it's on. Oh there, it's off again. So, I told the manager. He tried to "fix it himself" HA. So he got a tech to look at it (a wk later). The tech said that the stove was the original from 1981 folks: it needs to be replaced, they don't make replacement parts. And the manager has the AUDACITY to say "are you sure? can't you just rig something up to make it work?" I just about lost it. "NO" the tech emphatically says, "it HAS to be replaced. It's old and is an electrical HAZARD at this point. In fact, it should have never got this bad..." 10 days later, I had a new stove (much to the chagrin of the manager). I rest my case. --The A/C doesn't cool anything but about 2' right in front of it...oh and did I mention it's in the corner....also another retro item. --Watch out in the parking lot. We got ourselves some tenants who like to race: speedbumps or no speedbumps. --Speaking of the parking lot, tenants and "visitors" have a tendancy to take any spot they want, whether or not your apt number is there. --As to the comment about the washers. They don't. Wash, I mean. One day, out of sheer curiousity, I opened the lids to my loads of laundry. Normally, the spinner actually MOVES the laundry in a "swishing" sort of way. Not these. I sat there and watched my laundry set in one spot for five minutes. I know that sounds lame, but these are desperate times, people!! I'm tired of paying for my laundry to NOT get clean. Now, I fill the washers 1/3 full. I have to do a lot more loads, but at least they get a little cleaner. Dryers. Hmmm. There are 8 dryers here and for 5 months. Only 3-5 of them have been usable. For 80 apts to share, that is NOT enough. I'm wondering where my rent money is going if not to maintain the grounds. Guess that just about does it for now. There are just too many WONDERFUL things to put down here! Beware, Renter, beware. Learn from the mistakes of your forefather renters and steer clear of 32 Pines. She looks good from the outside, but the secrets from inside her are much different. Her rent due each month is tantalizing, I know, but resist her wiles, for she WILL bring you down.
