Resident 2015 - 2016

6/11/2016

CCVII Management (Burt and Peter) are very rude and gruff. When we moved in, they would not let us fill out the condition report, but instead wrote down what they felt was important and made us sign it. I pointed out a lot of problems, she said not to worry about it since they don't. We have always taken great care of things and followed the rules, paid early, etc. Our upstairs neighbors have parties and use loud appliances and do laundry at 2AM, fight a lot, and park in walkways or handicap spots for 12+ hours - I even have photos of it that I have showed management - they do nothing about it. In fact, Burt called me back after bringing her photo evidence to tell me they denied the claims and that's that. It's astonishing how many people are out walking dogs, how many cats I see in windows, etc - considering ALL the signs they post everywhere about being a pet-free community. Recently, we started looking for a new apartment due to acceptance into a school farther away. They threw away the reference request from the prospective landlord. Every time I walk into the office, they assault me with questions of "have you turned in your notice yet? You need to turn your notice in right away!" Well, thank you, but I'm not ready for that, it's just a search process. All they have to do for a reference is state when we moved in, that we pay on time, and haven't had any problems. She told me they don't give references until after the final walkthrough and we move out. Excuse me?! How do 400 units of families get new housing if they can't confirm info from current landlord? So I jumped through the hoops, agreed to let Burt inspect our apartment to see how well we take care of it - then when I went in to ask when is a good time for her, she said "not now" and went back to work. I said "great, I'll work around your schedule, just let me know when" she replies "I'll call you" then has her receptionist come in and tell me I need to turn in notice immediately. Thanks, I know the contract, today is the 5th and I have until the 10th. If I'm ready by then, I am well within my legal rights to turn it in during the next 5 days. And guess what, if I'm a day late in notice, I understand the law, I'll accept that as my fault and pay the extra month. They treat tenants like we're swine - even though she had just told me we're great tenants. Oh, also the moment Burt found out we are looking around, she demanded I remove items from our back porch (I know the contract, they are not restricted items), so for fun I walked around and photographed all the items my neighbors have on their porches that are specifically restricted in the contract and showed her. She didn't care that I could show she's just picking on us for attempting to move on with life. Comically, she informed me one of the apartments was hers after she had just finished explaining the items that are allowed. Hers had restricted items. She didn't see the irony, so I let it go. Here are some of the photos of items that neighbors get away with keeping on their porch despite being specifically restricted in the contract - one of these belongs to Burt! Note the trash bags, that's listed 4 times to leave outside your apartment. Plus one of the many cars that park in one of many wrong places - this is a marked walkway and about half the driveway. It sat there overnight. Nobody does anything about this or abuse of handicap spots - but we sure got the business for imaginary rules. Burt needs to learn some manners and treat people like humans, not pests. Just know your rights, know the contract, don't take Burt's abuse, insist that you fill out the condition report with everything you want on it. Better yet, find a landlord that cares and appreciates good tenants. At move-out Peter told me he'd be right there and then had me wait an hour in the apartment for him to show up. He says the little discoloration on the oven which I couldn't repair after an hour, which was there at move-in, was our fault and he'd never let anybody move in with something like that. Weird, because there were a lot of other issues he let us move in with. Will attach photos of those (cracks, warped discolored ceiling from water damages, badly stained carpet, cuts in walls, etc). trapped, I could either sign the form or he could claim abandonment and ding me up further. He then told me to sign a blank condition report, his wife fills them out later. HOLD ON! She wasn't even there and you want me to sign a blank check? NO WAY. After he stared me down for not agreeing to this, he begrudgingly filled out the form. He marked "C" on everything, and I couldn't find a legend - so I asked. He said it means "clean",which made sense as he had just commented that there are no new damages and it's all clean. Turns out there is a legend hidden on the other side of the form, "C" means "Needs cleaned" - so he tricked me into signing that, later taking 15% of my deposit to clean a spotless apartment.
