Montair is an average apartment complex. The rent is average, the apartments are average, the amenities are average. The front office staff of Montair is a huge positive to the complex. Even when the front office is busy, the staff always remains friendly and accommodating. A lot of the issues other people mention about the staff seems to stem from their new financial owners. If you respect the staff and speak honestly, they will return the favor. Many policies they have to enforce are not theirs, but the new owners'. When I moved in, I was not told what time I could pick up my keys until that day. This was just after the new owners took over and there was a new manager. During that transition, maintenance requests took more than two weeks to complete, and there was often a line in the front office. The complex does look modern, the clubhouse and pool are well taken care of, and the few community events they put on are tons of fun. Montair's website is easy to use for paying rent and submitting maintenance requests. They only planned to raise my rent $40 after one year. However, there are a lot of great "features" that look amazing on the surface, but are not always as satisfactory as you initially would think, often because of unmentioned (hidden) fees. Montair is great at framing these features in a positive light. For example, they have someone come by 5 days per week and pick up your garbage outside your door. The downside: it costs an extra $25 per month (in addition to the normal ~$20/mo trash fee!), there are no dumpsters in the complex, it is mandatory, and they charge a fee if you leave out your trash can past 9 am the next morning (though they've never enforced this fee with me personally). It doesn't take much math to see that someone is making bank from the 300 residents each month. They have a new 24 hour package locker room. Downside: there's a $3 fee per day if your package is there longer than 3 days. They set up your utilities when you move in. Downside: there's a $5 service fee. The new owners seem to be trying to squeeze every last dollar out of their residents that they can before people notice or get too upset. Finally, their basketball court is not full sized even though their website says it is. Montair gets 3 stars and not less solely based on the front office staff. Give them a raise, or better yet, hire more employees and stop cutting corners!
