Resident 2018 - 2019

4/16/2019

We've lived in The Bascom (2 bed/1 bath) which is the unit discussed in this review. 1: There aren't enough parking spots. I regularly have to park by another building and walk over to my unit which is always fun in the snow. There are cars in the parking lot outside my unit that are clearly non-functional but are taking up spots people could use for their cars that will, you know, actually start/drive. 2: My work/maintenance requests have been closed/deleted ~1 month after I opened them without anyone contacting me or coming to fix the issue. They no longer show up in my 'history' section of the resident portal but I have automated emails from it as evidence. 3: We rented a 2 bedroom apartment and, because the master bedroom has 2 outside walls and an AC unit that leaks air 24/7, the master bedroom is 10-25 degrees colder than the rest of the unit ALL WINTER LONG. During this winter (it hit -45 this year with wind chill) we regularly had to turn the heat up to 80, close the master bedroom door, open the second bedroom window, and open the back door in the living room. This let cold air flow through the unit to keep the heater on so that the master bedroom (closed door so the cold air didn't get in) would get at least into the 60s. If the heat wasn't included in our rent, this would have absolutely been a deal breaker for us. Instead, it is just a daily inconvenience. Yes, I said daily--from around Thanksgiving through April, when this review was written. All-in-all, you get what you pay for. Our monthly payment *WAS* just under $1000 a month (they offered to renew our lease and their offer is no longer under $1000/mo) so I didn't expect much. Everyone in the community is super nice (staff and residents both) and, despite being the cheapest reasonable place we could find, it doesn't seem sketchy at all--even when my girlfriend or I are walking our dogs alone at 2 AM. There are kids running around playing on a daily basis which is always a good indicator that it's a safe place to live. If the first 3 issues aren't deal breakers, you'll be fine living here. There aren't many cheaper 2 bedroom units that aren't in sketchy areas of town so we just extended our lease for a second year after living here for 8 months out of our first 12. Overall, it was about what I expected, given the price.
