As a newcomer to Madison, I was nervous about the rent rates verses location - i.e. the lower the rent, the worse the location! I actually found Shenandoah from this site. The place is quiet and clean, with a good mix of residents (students, retired folks, working professionals, a few families). There's a review here that says it's in "the ------", which I think is profoundly exaggerated. There's a pretty rough part of town several blocks south of Shenandoah, but the area around here is really nice - near the Arboretum and Vilas zoo, and really close to restaurants, a post office, and a grocery store. Plus, there's a lot of foot traffic around because it's near one of the Dean Clinics, which has a very well-lit parking lot. I've never felt unsafe at night, though taking safety precautions is reasonable in all areas of Madison.

Our maintanence requests have been dealt with very promptly, and the maintanence guy, who lives in the complex, is very friendly and professional. The kitchens have been redone with beautiful cabinetry. The heat is included. There's a giant storage cabinet for each apartment in the basement, plus a place to put your bicycle, also in the basement. There are only three washers and dryers, but I've had no problems doing my laundry on weeknights (it gets a little backed up in the laundry room on Sundays).

The apartment comes with a parking spot, but if you have two cars, I've never had problems parking on the street in front of my building.

I've been very pleased with my experience at Shenandoah apartments. I hope that you found this information helpful!
