I've lived here since '06. As a recent grad at the time, with little money, this apartment wasn't my first choice but I'm glad I found it. Locationwise its great. I can walk to the grocery store, post office, clinic, zoo, etc. The South Library Branch is a 10 minute walk. There is a bus stop across the street that my first roommate used all the time as a grad student at the UW. The Wingra Bike Path runs right past the 1351 building and you can hop on it and make it just about anywhere. It's easy to walk along the river to the arboretum for some nature time. A cab ride from downtown is super cheap. It's true that the Badger Road neighborhood is sketchy. But that's almost a mile away. I ride past it on my bike everyday and have never had a problem. I wouldn't be worried this far North. The bar down the street referenced in another review that had been a problem for violence has been closed now for over a year. I can't speak for every unit here, but mine has very nice cabinets, I'd guess no more than 10 years old. Appliances are fairly new and work great. I've been told by multiple guests that the water pressure here is AMAZING!! As far as noise goes, I'm on the second floor and it's never been a problem for me. You can occasionally here people in the hallways, but rarely. Nothing I've ever had to complain about. The laundry is in the basement where your storage units are and where you can keep your bikes out of the weather. There is a little bit of a creepy vibe down there, but the laundry areas are well lit. Only one parking space per unit and it's not covered, but parking is plentiful on the street as well. Just be wary of the Madison parking regulations during winter. The staff here is great. Having recently gotten a new roommate, they are thorough in checking tenants backgrounds to ensure fewer problems down the road. I'm always getting emails for packages getting delivered for me. Maintenance is awesome. When my old roommate moved out they cleaned our carpets and put a fresh coat of paint on a few walls. Every request I've made has been promptly resolved. Sometime they'll even go beyond what I asked for by replacing a fixture or even changing my lightbulbs. The decor/colors are kind of dated, but I don't care. If you want a brand new facility you're going to pay a lot more. One of the reasons I've stayed here so long is because it has allowed me to save up money for my own place. It's a great deal if you can find yourself a roommate. I could see living here many more years but I'll be finding a place with my girlfriend in a year or so. This place felt like home once I finally settled in and I recommend it to all of my friends looking for a place close to downtown. Hope you'll give it a serious look. I'll try to post some pictures of my unit in the next couple of days to paint a better picture. Ciao!
