Resident 2015 - 2017

8/25/2017

We love it here. My partner and I lived in the north tower in a 1 bedroom. Quiet community with great views and lots of natural light. Location can't be beat; grocery store, post office, dry cleaners, hair salon, etc. I'm able to walk to so many things. So nice to have a dishwasher, laundry in the building, fitness center, and pool. I also love that office staff sign for packages during the day. And cookie Thursday! Cons: There are only 7 laundry machines and sometimes at least one is out of order or they're all full. The pool is kind of dirty. It's supposed to be non smoking, but people still smoke right outside the doors to the building. Never experienced smoke in the building though. Our rent was raised substantially our second year - the property management/ Oakbrook Corp were unresponsive and unwilling to let us negotiate. We ended up re-signing our lease due to the convenience of life here, but if you do your research there are very nice buildings for better prices. You'd just have to give up the pool. No parking for guests, but there tends to be a lot street parking during the day. When we first moved in there were no open parking spots in the garages. We had to park in one of the MSOE lots for 3 days then moved to the south tower garage for a couple months before something opened in the north tower. Pros: Trash chutes. We lived right across from the trash chute and never had a smell bother us. So nice to have recycling in the building too, and Metro Market right next door! I love having a package room to get packages. My old place had no one to sign during the day so packages ended up getting taken to Fedex by the airport. Bike racks in the garage. Underground parking is nice overall. Mindae, the security guard at night, is so nice! She's very down to earth and always willing to go above and beyond. Kristen, a office staff member, was kind enough to even feed our cat while we were out of town on a couple weekends. It's personal touches like this from the office staff that make Yankee Hill feel like home. Overall, the BEST location! Close to bus stops, restaurants, bars, parks, lake, downtown, etc. Quiet building for the most part. If you want to meet all your neighbors it may not be the best for that type of lifestyle, although there are resident events with free food about every other month. Moving in goes smoothly because they let you use one of the elevators just for moving. Maintenance is so nice and responsive! If we had a maintenance request they'd get it done the same day or the next day at the latest. Overall, lovely community with lots of perks. But for the price it may not be worth it for everyone. When they raised our rent we considered moving, but ultimately didn't want to deal with the hassle. I'd recommend signing a lease in the winter; people we know who did so pay substantially less than us (we signed in the spring/early summer).
