Rent increase: when someone moves out, the landlord will raise up the rent at least $50 for the next tenant; I saw it done multiple times.

Parking: Tenants who have been there longer than new ones get spots way at the back of the lot (each apt only gets 1). MANY problems with coming home to other random cars in your spot and the landlord does nothing.

NOISE: I could hear my upstairs neighbor cough. Terrible dog problem ~ 2 ladies have dogs that are NOT controlled. But when we turned on our TV quietly past 9pm, we would get eviction notices. We were afraid to have more than 2 friends over at a time. We had to whisper past 10. And it still wasn´t good enough.

Discrimination: Landlord will discriminate against young people and females, in our opinion and from our experience.

Appearance: Apartments are not kept very clean.

Safety: It´s just not in too good of an area.

Laundry: Half the time they´re broken.

Electricity/cables: We had cables popping out of the wall in one room. We repeatedly asked the landlord to fix our outlets that were not working; it was never done.

Insects: Found a couple of roaches in the hallway. Had a terrible ant problem summer of 2001; landlord claimed he could "do nothing" about it and told us to just go and buy some ant spray. Refused to help.

Neighborhood: Not the best area at all, crime rates are rather high, but there are 2 gas stations and a shopping center right across the street.

OTHER MAJOR PROBLEMS: Landlord and maintenance are not only very hard to get ahold of, but when you do find them, they don´t fix things or respond to requests adequately. I once was left with no heat or no returning phone calls for almost a week in a very cold week of November 2000. Buildings are not kept up to codes and statutes. You probably will not get your security deposit returned in full ~ from my experience, the landlord likes to make up mysterious "late charges" even when your rent was paid on time every month. They are very unfriendly. They seemed to want us out of there from day 1 just because we were under 30 years old. Neighbors would complain if we were standing on the common porch, even if just waiting for a ride. Once, there was a guy laying on the hood of my car looking to break in, while it was parked in the lot under a light. There are no locks on the windows ~ just wooden sticks to hold them "locked". On 2 occasions that I know of, he has let new tenants move into a unit while the old ones were still paying rent or still had the keys. When we moved in, the old tenants came into our apartment with their set of keys to make sure everything was moved out, and they had no idea that we were already living there because they still had their keys and were paying the rent. It got so bad living there that we moved out only 6 months into the new lease (meaning we were willing to pay rent in 2 places for up to a half a year); we paid our last month´s rent and went back to visit a friend mid-that-month, and discovered that there were new tenants living in our unit, for the MONTH THAT WE WERE PAYING RENT!!!! A call to the landlord helped not a bit; with him giving us flimsy excuses as to why he let people move in during a month that we were still paying $575 for the unit. He refused to return our rent for that month even though he had tenants living there since the 3rd.
