Fountains of Wauwatosa

I have a love-hate relationship with the Fountains. I lived there 1.5 years and had a lower 2BR/1.5BA.

The good:
-Management was friendly, had a few things break and they were tended to promptly.
-Very spacious for the price, kitchen was the best part.
-Underground parking and large (5x8'?) storage were a good bonus
-Close to the freeway and plenty of shopping
-Mostly a quiet area, my patio faced the "park" and I loved sitting out there day and night.
-Free heat can't be beat
-Rarely a problem with guest parking

The Not-So-Good
-Thin walls/floors. Upstairs neighbor worked 3rd shift and I always knew when he was home.
-Management changed 3 times in a 2 year span... never a bad experience, but not a good sign either.
-Worried about the neighborhood. My car (while parked outside) was broken into twice in a month. Friend had their car broken into as well. Many neighbors warned me about the low-income apartments that neighbor the fountains.
-I've seen people rush into the hallway when someone else goes through the front door. I've had random people buzzing my apartment (and probably everyone else) all hours of the morning hoping to get in. Lots of overly trusting neighbors just hold the door for strangers. Management put out several letters warning against this...
-Manager told me at one point crooks were prying open the garage doors...
-Regular drug deal took place at night on 100th street right outside the apartment.

I suppose if you have an upper, don't keep expensive stuff in your car and maybe live in the units further away from 100th st (away from the ------ apartments on the corner), these could be a nice place for the money. I've been tempted to go back, but the negatives outweigh the positives for me.
