Resident 2009 - 2010

5/27/2010

You get what you pay for

I'm a WVU student and chose to live at The Ridge because I had two friends here that needed a roommate. I am a current resident and have a lease until August 2011. If you would like to see a real room and not their nice model apartment my email is zukiguy@gmail.com. This community is very average. I locked my key in my room and they lost the backup I turned in when I bought a new lock because the one they provided was crap. The buildings are cheapy constructed, the nails are backing out of the walls in several places. The walls and ceiling are all covered in the same thick textured beige covering. The carpet is cheap thin material that would look right at home in a department store. The furniture is probably the cheapest you could buy at the time. The finish is peelng off my computer desk, the bar stools are falling apart (one is broken), the TV stand is wobbly, the coffee table's surface is peeling up, the counters are discolored, etc. The appliances are also incredibly cheap. Expect nothing more than an outdated at best compact washer/dryer combo, fridge, stove, etc. At least the microwave has buttons and not a dial. The refrigerator is obscenely small for a place with 4 roommates.. particularly the freezer. The staff is friendly but about as competent as you'd expect the hired resident college students to be. The shuttle service is pretty reliable but has left me stranded before. It's a LONG walk from anywhere in Morgantown, especially since once you're past BB&T Bank there are no sidewalks. The rent is lowered starting in August I think.. $330 per month. Not bad. The good things are parking.. There are a LOT of parking spaces. The lot isn't really secure but plenty of parking is a huge bonus for me. They don;t seem to care if you work on your car.. I spent a couple days under my vehicle replacing the clutch and nobody said a word. ANother good thing is the advertised amenities.. they seem up to par. The computers are a little old in the computer center but they work fine. I only go there to print things once in a while though. If you're looking to live here expect nothing extra. They will follow what they say to the letter but will not provide anything more. I've been lucky to not have any extra charges other than a late fee for rent. They will charge you for anything they can. There are no sidewalks. Walking to the office from the lower 9 buildings is dangerous as there's a blind curve the the residents love to speed around. There was talk of building a stairway to the office and pool area a while back but there isn't one and probably never will be one. They did build a shelter for the shuttle passengers out of the cheapest materials imaginable though. The residents here drive very fast through the parking lots.. backing out of a spot is dangerous. overall: The extra money to pay to live elsewhere is worth it if you can afford it.
